It’s my favorite word when I see things that really don’t make sense: stupid. That’s what I think when someone wants to build their main business on a free website. For the life of me, I don’t get why people keep asking how do they build a business with a free website.
Do you know how little it costs to have a website of your own? I mean a website you own. When you are on a free host, you don’t own your website. Read the terms of service. Or maybe you don’t want to because you’re afraid of what you’ll find out.
So here it is, the three reasons free site hosting for a website is stupid for your main business…
- The host owns your business and you don’t. This is because your free host considers your content as their property because you didn’t pay to put it there. What this also means is the owner of the free domain hosting can take your site down anytime they feel like it. There are no limitations, and there is no recourse for you. You can go to bed tonight, and you think everything is fine, and wake up tomorrow with your business gone. And yes, this really happens every single day.
- Free site hosting literally makes your website look like a free website. It says cheap all over it. It tells potential customers you aren’t really serious. Think about it; when was the last time you purchased something from a website on free hosting? The web address gives it away, and even if you can point your own domain at it, the looks of the site tell all. Nothing about a business on free site hosting inspires trust from a visitor.
- Try transferring it when you finally do get serious. Number one, why did you start your business planning to fail anyhow? That’s as stupid as putting your business on free hosting sites. Number two, why would you transfer something as cheesy looking as a website from a free site hosting service? Plus, it isn’t easy to do the transfer if you don’t know what you’re doing.
My bottom line is this…
You can have professional hosting for $7.95 a month. For this price you can get the hosting, the professional email service, a live conference room, and top quality video hosting. For this price, you can’t even see a movie, and when was the last time you MADE MONEY at a movie?
There are also many choices of professional themes for your website that cost less than a dinner for two. One I like for folks just getting started is Socrates. But that’s just one of many – nonetheless, and very good, and low cost way to put up professional website fast, easy, and for very low cost.
Alright, so I’m off my band wagon about stupid free site hosting. Be professional, because it it doesn’t even cost $10.

Wayne has been a tremendous help in past webinars and training modules, in getting me started building my own self hosted websites, and this latest website gives great insight and tips on choosing the right keywords to focus on. Wayne, I was able to move an Acupuncture website, co-creativesynergy.com, from 5th page of Google, to 1st page, on two main keywords,and to second page (still working) on ALL the others! in just three weeks, applying what you tough us about Link Building. I was working 15 minutes a day, three to four days a week! Even though I've been hearing about the importance of Back Linking, you gave me some very specific knowledge, that allowed my to be creative applying what I learned from you, and get this amazing results in such a short time! I also learned something else on my own, applying what I learned from you, very powerful; I'm still testing it and refining it with incredible results! Some of the keywords I use for that Acupuncture website are: - acupuncture for back pain los angeles - acupuncture los angeles - acupuncture weight loss los angeles - acupuncture infertility los angeles and I'm still excitedly working on it! Slowly but surely! When I started with this project, to get a website in the first page of Google, when the domain name doesn't even have ANY MEANINGFUL keyword, I though it was a lost case!!! Thanks Wayne for yet another awesome webinar today. It is certainly worth little effort to work out the time difference, and juggling work commitments, here in Australia, to be able to attend Wayne's webinars. Today's information on squeeze pages did not disappoint, and has given excellent material to get started creating that side of my internet marketing. It is through Wayne's online course, and webinars, that I got started in internet marketing and building websites.
