You’ve heard of Squidoo haven’t you? If not, you probably haven’t been paying attention to the marketing world. It’s a very simple thing to do, and you can ultimately add to your bottom line of profits and the best targeted traffic with just a little effort. It’s — let’s say — very much worth your time.
The Web 2.0/Social Combo
Squidoo is a combination of Web 2.0 website and social networking site. You can call it what you like, it really doesn’t matter. Seth Godin, a real blogging and marketing marvel created the site. Now tons of niche marketers are using it to help their online marketing and various internet ventures.
A website at Squidoo is called a lens. You just go there, and signup at Squidoo.com. It’s free. Then you start making whatever lens you like. You don’t have to wait.
What are the Limits?
There’s no limit on the topics you can choose. It can be about just fun stuff, about you, or about products and services. Whatever you like. The only requirement is the content you create has to be good, and not copied stuff or useless spam. You will get kicked off Squidoo for that.
You only need basic html. Acutally, you can make a lens with no html. Though I recommend you learn how to make a link, and enter an image. There are actually lenses that show you how to make a lens. However, if you are comfortable with basic HTML, then you are ready to build your first lens.
Taking on the Lens Masters
There are lots of super lens builders out there, and they spend a lot of time making many lenses. Squidoo calls them lens masters. They try to out rank everyone on Squidoo and to get top rankings in search engines like Google to get the targeted search engine traffic.
If you like doing this sort of thing, have at it. I recommend using the lens to bring targeted buyers to your main sales page or product reviews. If you’re writing up an affiliate offer, send them to a squeeze page first. Get them on your list, in case they don’t buy. You can market them something else.
The Squidoo – Google Connection
Also, you may have heard that Squidoo wasn’t doing so well in Google. That definitely seemed to be the case a few months ago. However, right now, much of the spam lens have been removed, and Squidoo is back in the good graces of the search engines. With the new enforcers in place, it will likely stay that way.
So to attract the search engines to your lens for the right searches, remember to include an important keyword or keyword phrase in the title and in the link for your lens. This will help the spiders rank you for the correct keywords, and content. Thus, it should get more traffic coming back to your main offer.
Getting Targeted Traffic to Your Lens
One way to get visitors to your lens is to comment on lenses of similar topics. By doing this, you encourage people to visit your lens, and it will raise you in the Squidoo rankings — particularly if they leave comments on your lenses.
Don’t forget that you need to update your lens about once a week. However it seems that updating about every other day is best. Just go in and change a few words. That’s it. You don’t have to spend all day making big changes.
Using Squidoo for Your Marketing
You can find bunches of reports on how to use Squidoo for your marketing and to generate profits. But simply creating a couple of lenses will give you more visibility and more of the best targeted traffic which will ultimately help you succeed. Every little bit counts. You really can never have too many marketing opportunities.
So now when you’re asked if you Squidoo, the answer should be yes.
