You need traffic. Not only traffic — you need the best targeted traffic.
Maybe you’ll think this is nuts, but I can assure you it isn’t.
Every method of doing website promotion does not involve mechanical manipulation of some advertising program or software on your computer.
It doesn’t always involve the layout of your web page, or the little meta tag things in your HTML code.
Sometimes, it’s even more personal than that.
What’s more personal?
Well, it’s you. Did you know that your ability to smile with your customers directly affects the amount of sales you get?
That means it affects if and when a highly targeted visitor returns to your site. How important is this? Extremely important!
You already know that most sales are made, even online, after the 3rd, 4th, even 5th visit.
Now you ask, “How do I smile on a web page?
First, let me reprint something from Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends & Influence People:
The Value of a Smile at Christmas
It costs nothing, but creates much.
A smile enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give.
It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None are so rich they can get along without it, and none are so poor but are richer for its benefits.
It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and Nature’s best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody till it is given away.
And if in the last-minute rush of Christmas buying some of our salespeople should be too tired to give you a smile, may we ask you to leave one of yours?
For nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give!
Is it sinking in? This really has nothing to do with Christmas, it has to do with everyday of life!
So now, how do you do this in your web site?
Step 1: Put your smiling face on your website.
Step 2: Actually be happy and smiling when you write your content.
You laugh at me now, huh? Well, I’m still smiling, and so are you. Every writer knows this – that your personal attitude is actually transcended into your writing – whether you think so or not!
If you attack your mission of creating a successful business as misery, your potential customers will either directly or subtly realize this. You will loose sales because of it because the visitors won’t come back.
So is it this simple?
For me it wasn’t and for you, well, I don’t know. Here’s a little story:
I have always been a descent writer. Since junior high and high school, teachers always encouraged me to write. In college, I was tasked to write a 30 page research project, and turned it in with only 23 pages. The professor said I had more worthwhile content in 23 pages than any of the papers with 30 pages or more.
In my Navy career I was always the “go to” guy for the powerful point papers and writing of directives and such.
Problem was, this led to me writing completely emotionless, highly technical writing.
Writing in blogs and web pages was a big and difficult transition. I did not know anything about putting me or my smile in my writing. It did cost me.
So, start practicing now. If you hate expressing emotions and smiling, you better learn how. Start with your smiling 😀 face atop your website.
Put you into your website, and your visitors will keep coming back, which means more sales for you. This is the best targeted traffic!
